The Purpose of Our Organization

To provide an opportunity for Marysville youth to develop their athletic skills to the fullest potential through participation in the sports of baseball and softball while encouraging the spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, and athletic competition.

Our Organization

MJBSA is a 501 3C non-profit organization. The success of MJBSA is a direct reflection of a tremendous support network including but not limited to: Well over 100 volunteer coaches dedicated to the athletic and social development of Marysville youth. Approximately 50 local business sponsors who's financial contributions allow MJBSA to maintain affordable registration fees. In partnership, the City of Marysville provides and maintains 8 ball fields, while MJBSA provides all labor and expenses associated with administration of this recreational sports program serving more than 650 Marysville youth in the 2009 season.

MJBSA prides itself on continuously making this organization better every year. Some highlights include:

• Communication

  MJBSA keeps parents, coaches, and players updated on important announcements through our several channels: Twitter, email, RSS, our website and its news postings, as well as routine updates to the MJBSA weather-line. We are sure that you can find an avenue for updates that suits you.

• Background Checks

  The safety of Marysville youth is priority one. All coaches and volunteers must pass background checks.

• Coach Screening

  MJBSA is dedicated to ensuring the best possible experience for both players and parents. Based on input provided from parents and players in post-surveys of the prior year, MJBSA strives to ensure that only the most qualified applicants are allowed this special opportunity to coach the youth of Marysville.

• Commitment to Competitive Parity

  No other local league goes to such extensive efforts to ensure fairness and transparency in our player distribution procedures. Through our player evaluation and draft program, player assignment to teams is fully transparent with the goal of a balanced and equitable distribution of talent among all teams in each league.

• Lack of a Need for Fundraisers

  Registration fees and sponsorships cover all expenses which limits our need for the hassle of fund raisers.

• Fun Events and Rewards

  The following list are some of the activities we do each year:

  • League Night with the Columbus Clippers

    Each year in early June, the Columbus Clippers host an MJBSA League Night in Huntington Park. MJBSA players will have a parade on the field before the game and one lucky MJBSA player is selected to throw out the first pitch of the game.

  • Jamboree

    Our annual Jamboree is a fun filled close to the baseball/softball season. There are many activities and competitions for young and old with prizes for hitting, throwing and running.

  • Jamboree All-Stars

    Within each MJBSA league, 2 Jamboree All-star teams are selected to play an exhibition game during the end of season Jamboree. Unlike the typical all-stars, Jamboree all-stars ensure each team in the league is equally represented. Participates are selected by their teammate which tends to reward good character and sportsmanship as much as it does talent.

  • Trophies or Medals

    All MJBSA players will receive end of season participation medals. In addition, trophies are presented to each player on the teams with the best regular season records (top 1/3 of teams in each division).

  • Coaching Clinics and Training

    Preseason coaching clinics and meetings help to ensure each coach understands the expectations and gets off on the right foot for a successful season. Access to both printed and online training materials as well as support from seasoned coaches with years of experience ensures each coach has the necessary tools to meet the task.

  • Teamwork and Sportsmanship Focus

    At MJBSA, winning is secondary to sportsmanship. Coaches are encouraged to use baseball as an opportunity to teach life lessons in the meaning of teamwork and sportsmanship. Lessons they will use long after their baseball career is over.

  • Umpire Development Program

    MJBSA further supports Marysville youth with employment opportunities in our umpire development program. Applicants are required to attend preseason training. Qualified candidates earn a little extra income umpiring games while developing invaluable leadership skills.

  • Quality Equipment

    Each year all equipment bags are emptied and all severely worn, unsafe and usable equipment is discarded and replaced with new.

  • Limited Team Size

    The more players on a team, the less time each individual spends on the field. MJBSA restricts teams size limits (13 for 8U; 12 for all other leagues) to maximize player participation.

  • Player Participation Rules
